Anderson Julian & Hull Secures Fee Award Against Plaintiffs in Rare Outcome
James Stoll and Jamie Maas of Anderson Julian & Hull recently secured a significant victory for a local school district in a long-running constitutional challenge to the district’s kindergarten program. After prevailing on all claims, the firm successfully recovered costs and a portion of attorney fees against the plaintiffs, a rare outcome in educational litigation where fee-shifting typically favors prevailing plaintiffs, not prevailing school districts.
The court left no ambiguity about the quality of representation provided. In its order, the court found that AJH’s attorneys were “skilled, diligent, timely, and professional” and that “the constitutional issues were complex,” a direct judicial recognition of the work Mr. Stoll and Mr. Maas brought to this matter.
The case was litigated across multiple levels of the Idaho court system and involved sophisticated constitutional questions under both the Idaho and federal constitutions. We are proud to have defended the district through years of litigation and to have achieved a complete victory on all claims, capped by this favorable resolution on costs and fees.
